What to Avoid When Implementing New Police Scheduling Software

Police car with blue light on.

There are certain things you need to do to ensure a smooth transition into your new scheduling software.

Most issues that we have seen, arise because of poor or lack of communication.

It may just be a busy time of year.

Or maybe there are a lot of new hires.

New processes being implemented.

Whatever it may be, don't let it get in the way.

If you're investing in a new police scheduling software you want to be prepared so that you get the most out of it.

If the department is not ready, it is not going to be worth it.

So what are the most common issues and how do you overcome them?...

1. Waiting Too Long to Roll Out the System

Many times people get nervous and want to check everything over and over again before allowing anyone else to get in the system.

While it is understandable to be cautious, you don't want to be so cautious that the whole project is on hold based off fear.

Check that the major pieces are accurate and pass it out.

Prepare.

Once receiving the software, you should take 1-2 days to review it to ensure that information is correct.

If you know you are looking into scheduling software, make sure you understand how you schedule.

What are some reasons why you should not purchase scheduling software? Find out here.

2. Trying to Implement Everything at Once

With so many new processes you can move online, it is difficult not to implement them all at once.

However, this can be extremely overwhelming and cause more problems than solutions.

Implement one thing at a time to have the most success.

Patience.

Get the big-picture features running right away.

You will see the time savings and learn a lot just from that.

But don't implement every little thing before you're ready.

It will end up taking more time than if you waited.

For advice on how to roll out your system, read about 5 phases here!

3. Pushback From Other Administrators

Different personalities call for different opinions.

You may think your new software is the greatest thing on the planet.

But other administrators may have never heard of this nor understand why it is needed.

It is important to communicate with all individuals that will be using the system.

Get them involved early with this Infographic of 7 reasons why scheduling software is beneficial.

Communication.

Whatever you do, keep communication flowing.

These problems only come into play if you allow them to.

Scheduling software will save you a ton of time and hassle.

When prepared accordingly, the transition is smooth and effective.
